Retroactive

On March 31 and April 1, between 05:00 and 15:00 UTC, we experienced periods of degraded performance across our platform. During these windows, customers may have noticed slower page loads, delayed actions, and interruptions to some background processes.

We understand how disruptive this can be and sincerely apologize for the impact.

Impact

  • Slower navigation and delayed responses across the platform
  • Actions taking longer than expected to complete
  • Delays in background services, including:
    • Billing updates
    • Provisioning tasks
    • Notifications

This issue affected all customers during the time windows mentioned above.

What Happened

Our database system experienced unusually high CPU usage, which reduced its ability to process requests efficiently. This was driven by a combination of increased activity and some queries that were not performing as efficiently as expected. At the same time, background processes were competing for the same resources, adding further pressure to the system.

Resolution

Our engineering team took immediate steps to stabilize the system:

  • Optimized and improved the performance of the most demanding queries
  • Reduced the load from non-critical background processes
  • Increased available database resources
  • Cleared backlogs by restarting affected services

These actions restored platform performance to normal levels.

What We’re Doing to Prevent This

We are implementing several improvements to reduce the likelihood of this happening again:

  • Improving database query performance and indexing
  • Better separation of customer-facing and background workloads
  • Stronger monitoring and earlier alerting on system load
  • Ongoing capacity planning to better handle peak demand
  • Evaluating scaling improvements to increase resilience
